3 Key Components to International Ecommerce
Categories: Blog
The United States is not the only place where people pay for products and services online. As your ecommerce operation expands, it’s important to address the needs of your international shoppers. Make sure that you’re servicing them appropriately through the suggestions below. By using these proven methods, I assure you that you’ll see a positive reaction from international shoppers.
1) Culturally Relevant Payment Options
Most businesses, even those processing multi-millions of dollars online, neglect (at least initially) the payment culture within each country. Don’t make this mistake! Not everyone has credit and debit cards to make transactions online, even in the U.S. Make sure your website is offering payment options tailored to each specific culture and country.
Example: In Latin and South America cash-based payment options are common online. Businesses offering only credit & debit options are only able to capitalize on ~20% of the population.
2) Domestic Currency Conversion
When buying on or offline, one of the most important factors is the price, agreed? Then offering and expecting a customer to make a purchase without them knowing how much will be withdrawn from their account is unrealistic. The solution is to offer currency conversion options, whether automated or manual, offering this you’ll increase conversions. (increase conversions or purchases?)
3) Translated Website Options
While English may be the most common business language today, there are billions of people who don’t speak or read English. The best way to handle this challenge is by adding language translation functions to your website.
Tip: Using website traffic analytics, identify where the majority of your international customers are located. Using this data, focus on translating your website into the common languages spoken in each of the identified countries.
Each of these tips comes with a caveat; if your site does not have substantial international traffic, it may not makes sense to implement any of the functions mentioned above.
